can't paste in Word 2007

I can't copy and paste when using any of the Office 2007 applications. When I
try to copy something, it doesn't show up in the clipboard.
I've been trying to work with some text in Word, and been unable to copy and
paste it.
I've also tried opening Word in safe mode, but still having the same problem.
