I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows ME.
I use MS Outlook for my email. I backed up the Outlook
application data before reformatting. After I got back
up, reinstalled Outlook, and got on line -- I copied over
my previous Outlook files. My .pst file was named
doug.pst.

Well, it won't let me access them. Even when I try to
import it via the File menu, I can't. What I first get is
a dialogue box saying "Properties for this information
service must be defined prior to use." Then I click OK on
that and I get another dialogue box saying "File access is
denied. You do not have permission required to access the
file c:\windows\application data\outlook\doug.pst."

I don't think the copy is corrupted because I have another
backup from about a year ago, and I get the same thing
with that.

Never overwrite a PST file. It could indeed be corrupt.
First make sure it doesn't have a read only attribute from your transfer
medium.
If it doesn't, then try to repair it with the Inbox Repair Tool.

Russ,
Thanks for the advice. I looked at the Inbox Repair Tool
MS Knowledge Base Article 197316. It says it is only good
for Corporate or Workgroup option. I am a home user and
have Outlook set up for email only. Can I still use it?

Thanks.

I opened my Outlook 2000 with the same .pst file on my
notebook okay. I had forgotten that I had password
protected my .pst file in the past. I think my .pst file
is still password protected but when I reformated my hard
drive the password list (wherever that is) was lost.

I know the password for my .pst file. How can I provide
it to Outlook so it knows it is okay to open the .pst file?

Thanks
