Can't open web to edit

I have been having problems publishing my web to an external drive. One
reason given to me was that some files might be in excess of 1 MB. The fix
was to mark the large files "Don't Publish", and manually move them via
Windows Explorer. I had in excess of 150 files at or over 1MB, and marked
them "Don't Publish". When I tried to open the web in page view, it wouldn't
open. Is that related to marking all those files "Don't Publish". If so is
there a fix? I can't get into the reports view either. The web still works
in terms of opening from the URL.

Did you also transfer the large files (marked do not publish) using windows Explorer?

Explain what you are trying to do
- back up the web to an external drive, run the web from an external drive

I didn't do anything with the files marked "Do not Publish" yet. After I
marked them I tried to get into page view in order to publish to the external
drive. It would not open, and said there was insufficient memory. I closed
Front Page and checked my c: drive and found out that it was full. When I
tried to get back into FrontPage, it opened but not my web. The start up is
set to open the current web. Since the current web won't open, FrontPage
seems to be locked. I made 150 MB available on the C: drive, and still could
not get in. I then reinstalled Front Page, and that did not work either. I
am now trying to copy and paste all the files in the web to my external
drive, which is extremely time consuming. My initial intent was, and is to
edit the web off line so I would have a bachup copy.

I don't understand what I did wrong, nor do I have a clue on how to fix it.
The web works and can be accessed via the URL, but I can't edit it.

If your are just making a backup of a disc based web (from a folder - say C:\MyWebName)
Just copy the whole folder from C to your External Drive using Windows Explorer
- remove the do not publish from all your files

In general, If you only have 150 MB available on your C: drive you will continue to have problems (w/ more than FP)
- not enough space for all the Windows Temp and IE Temp files, etc

The web is not disc based, it is server based, does that make a difference? I
am in the process of trying to copy and paste through the Windows explorer to
my external drive. I can't undo the "do not publish" because I cannot open
the web from FP. It opened with less than 150 MB in the past. Did the changes
I made in publishing status ( "Publish" to "Don't Publish")use more memory?

If it is your local host server under IIS you can still just copy it from C:\Inetpub\wwwroot

Free up lots more disc space on C:

Thank you Stefan, the copying is slow but working. Why doesn't the web open
from FP on the server? Is it the memory issue? If so, how much free disk
space do I need for it to open?

Did you go into computer management and make sure IIS is Started??

Also, to remove the "open last web "setting, with FrontPage closed, run regedit and go here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\FrontPage\Explorer\FrontPage Explorer\Settings

and change the value for OpenLastWeb from 1 to 0 ( number zero )

Close regedit and then open FrontPage

You need to have about 1 GB of free space, which allows space the Windows Swap file, temp files,
recycle bin, etc. used by all applications.

Thank you, I may be finally getting somewhere, but I still need help. We
have PWS not IIS, is the procedure still the same? If so, how do I get into
computer management? Also where do I find "regedit"?
