Can't Open TIFs with Adobe

Hello, I have an issue with my new laptop. I installed and configured
Windows Mail with a POP3 email account on Vista. But now I can't open
TIF attachments with Adobe, as I could with XP. I get the error
message "Adobe Reader could not open .tif because it is either not a
supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for
example,it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly
decoded".

I checked in Control Panel and TIF extensions are associated with
Adobe 8. Also, I went to Winhelponline and installed the registry fix
for file association fixes.

Can anyone help with this? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
