Can't open a second window

If I'm in a window and want to open a second window, I would click File | New
| Window. Unfortunately, the first window closes and the new window opens -
showing the same content. I can't seem to get two windows to remain open
simultaneously.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi getravel :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Open in new window doesn't work
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers.htm#new_window

or....

Cannot open more windows

Start/Run/CMD.
Type this command:
REGSVR32 URLMON.DLL.
Ok/Reboot.

or...

Go to Tools>Internet Options> Advanced tab
UNcheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts"
Click Apply
Close IE and reopen then see if the problem still exists

also..

You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens After You

or............................

Courtesy of Don Varnau:

From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> uncheck "Reuse windows
for launching shortcuts."

And...

You may have a program running which is blocking pop-up windows-
something like Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, a firewall, Earthlink (or
another) pop-up blocker, etc. You'll have to uninstall the program or turn
off the feature that's blocking new windows.

With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.

Hope this helps :-)

Other possibilities and solutions, read the note below - From Don Varnau,
MVP:

<quote>
You probably have a program running which is blocking pop-up windows-
something like Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another) pop-up blocker, MyIE2 (or another shell for IE) etc.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program.

BHO Demon from http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm may find the
offending program/BHO.

Or it could be caused by spyware/parasites. Work through the solutions

Jan and Ramesh,

thank you so much for your suggestions. I think Ramesh may have hit the
nail on the head because I do have a program running that suppresses pop-ups.
I'm not on my PC right now, but I will check this the next opportunity I get.

Thank you once again.

getravel:

I tried the suggestions including those in article 281679 and turning off
the pop-up blocker in IE (Tools, Internet Options, Privacy, unchecked "Block
pop-ups", Apply and finally OK). Nothing worked. I guess I'll have to try to
re-install IE as a last resort.

Good luck. I'll check back in a few days if I have not figured this out to
see if you were successful.
