I can't open several pages with my browsers IE6 or Avant. I can open them
with other computers so something is screwing up the connection. Any
hpshopping.com pages for one. I can start at http://www.hp.com/ then click
<Home & Home Office > then [int the black bar] I try desktop, or notebook or
PDA and get "page cannot be displayed". <
http://www.hpshopping.com/cgi-bin/sh...sktops&AOID=81 >

I have the same problem with links at JC Penney. mostly the links that come
in the emails. Usually with a "chtah" in the URL <

Does anyone have any insight as to the cause?

TIA,

Byrd

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded.

Been there done that, have been using ad-aware for a year or so. The only
spyware I have is some that I know about and have had on for a couple of
years. IT never affected my browsing before.

This situation seems to be related to something that has happened since I
upgraded to WinXP and IE6. I never had the problems with 5.5 that I recall.
BTW, I did make the changes suggested in the article you referenced.

Still can't open those pages
Any other ideas?
Bob

Do you always seek updated reference files for Ad-Aware before each use?
Even Ad-Aware can't snag all of these bad guys:

Dealing with Hijackware
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm#tshoot
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

I highly recommend using HijackThis
(http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip) to identify and
assist in the removal of these bad guys. **Post your files to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.
