When I try to open Outlook, I get the following message:

"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window.
The set of folders could not be opened."

All my other Office programs work reliably.

I used the Control Panel\Programs and Features to repair Office, uninstalled
Office 2003 and reinstalled several times, uninstalled Office 2003 and
installed 2007, uninstalled 2007 and reinstalled 2003, rebooted several
times, ran Outlook.exe /resetnavpane several times, and still the same
message after each attempt to fix the problem.

I'm using Vista Home Premium 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002.

I had no trouble using Outlook 2003 with my Hotmail account on my previous
computer that ran XP.

I would try creating a new profile with a new pst file to see if you can
narrow down if it is the installation or the data.

Start with a new mail profile and make sure it points to the PST you wish to
use.

Thank you for your response. How do I create a new profile with a new pst
file?

Thank you for your guidance.

The first direction in your link was to "go to Control Panel-> Mail-> button
Show Profiles…
If you are using a 64-bit edition of Windows;
go to Control Panel-> Additional Options-> View 32-bit Control Panel
Items-> Mail-> button Show Profiles… "

I could not find Mail or Additional Options in my Control Panel...

What now?

Are you using the Category or Classic view of the Control Panel? If the
former, it should be under the "User Accounts" category.

I kept working at it until I found a link for Control Panel Home. I had been
using the Classic View. I created a new profile. I started Outlook and got a
sign-in box for my Hotmail account! Outlook is now showing my email folders
and is sending/receiving my mail. Hooray! Thank you so much!

I forgot to mention that you needed to view the 32 bit Control panel. I
overlooked the "Vista64" in the subject of your post.
