Can't open Outlook/Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook message

I got up this morning to find the following message in the middle of my screen:

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook Window

I have run diagnostics and it found no errors. I even tried going to
technical support and filled out a form there, but when it asked for the
product key number, it would not accept it and automatically sent me to a
page asking for a credit card number.

I just bought the upgrade in April (2009) and I simply cannot figure out
what the error is or how to fix it.

It is the Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 Upgrade and I really need
some help with this - I have been working on it for three hours and I'm still
at square one.

does outlook work if you use the /safe switch?
what about the /resetnavpane switch?

See http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/safemode.htm - use the same method
to use the /resetnavpane switch

I tried both options and nothing came up. I am using Vista, which I failed
to mention earlier, but regardless - I tried the /safe and nothing came up.
The computer searched all files and nothing came up

There is nothing to search - you type outlook.exe /safe and press enter to
start outlook in safe mode. Make sure there is a space between the words.

I had what appears to be the exact same problem when I tried to start MS
Outlook 2007 on my Vista laptop this morning. Have been working on it all day
with no luck. I tried your suggestion of "outlook.exe /resetnavpane" and now
it works fine. THANKS!!!!

Thank you, had the very same problem and couldn't fix it until I ran the
'outlook.exe /resetnavpane' step you suggested. Much appreciated.

I also had this problem but couldn't get the resetnavpane to work until i
realised there is a space after "Outlook.exe". fixed the problem straight
away. I am using office outlook 2007 on windows 7.

Thanks so much. I had defragged, turned all other programs and outlooks was
still hanging up my system and just wouldn't respond. /resetnavpane worked.
