My laptop has WinXP Pro on it with Service Pack 2, though this problem
existed before I updated, and the problem is I open IE and go to a website
but when I click on a link to open another window, that window does not stay
open. Even if I try to open a second IE it will not stay open, neither will
Mozilla or Netscape. Any ideas what system setting needs to be changed?
Thanks.

Hi,
I don't know what would cause this problem on all 3 browsers, but here are
some things to check out...

1. Is a third-party program causing this?
From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> uncheck "Reuse windows
for launching shortcuts."

And... do you have a program running which is blocking pop-up windows?
Something like Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another pop-up blocker) My IE2 (a shell for IE) etc.
Yahoo Companion is a very common cause.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program.

With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.

2. Check for malware. Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware,
Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

Thanks Don,
I have tried all suggestions but still am not able to open multiple browser
windows. I will just have to use Mozilla Firefox and use multiple tabs.
Will continue to troubleshoot. Thanks again.

Just wanted to let ya know that I checked all programs I have on my laptop
and found one, IClean, that had a popup blocker and I unchecked it and that
seems to allow me to open multiple browser windows now. Thanks again for all
your help.
