FP2002 was acting strange so I reinstalled it. Now, I can only open
one page at a time for editing and when I make an edit on a page, I
don't see the asterisk that indicates the page has changed.

Have you done the usual clean up procedures??
With FrontPage shut down:
Find and delete all files named *.web and then *.tmp
Clear your Temporary Internet and History files.
Reopen FrontPage.
