"Can't Open This Item" when trying to open searched contact

If i search for a contact from another users contacts and double click on the
desired contact to open then outloot reports "can't open this item"

however if you manually navigate to the contact without searching you can
open the contact.

it only reports the above error if the search feature is used to find the
contact

Any suggestions?
