Can't open Explorer

I previously experienced some problems for which my consultant advised me to
switch to Firefox as my default web browser. Now, I have been trying to
switch back to Explorer, but I am unable to launch. I still have an Explorer
icon on my screen, but it does nothing. When I try to open Explorer from the
start menu, I originally got the following message: "Windows cannot find
'C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe'. I attempted to reset
Explorer as my default browser through the control panel, and now I get the
following message when I try to launch from the start menu: "Windows cannot
find '(null)'. Still nothing happens when I double click on the icon. When
I search the "C" drive, the Explorer files show up, but I am still unable to
launch. I have attempted to download both Explorer 7 and 8 from the
Microsoft download web site, but to no avail. It appears that the downloads
go well and are completed, but I still can find no way to successfully
launch.

What were the problems?

Poor advice, as far as I'm concerned, and a consultant that I would
therefore not trust. Switch from IE to Firefox *if* you like Firefox
better, not because you are having problems with IE. If you are having
problems, the problems should be troubleshot and *fixed*, not hidden
because you use some other program.

I can't be sure, of course, but it sounds like you have a malware
infection. What anti-virus and anti-spyware software do you run? Are
they kept up to date?

Always download Spyware cleaners from their respective sites not a nasty
third-party one as you cannot trust them
