Hold down the Left Click on it, and drag it to where you
want it placed.

How are you displaying your message view? If you are using the Reading Pane
and the message list is between your folders and the reading pane, the
message list cannot be rearranged. You can, however, use the bottom Reading
Pane and then use the OP suggestion for arranging your columns.
