Hi...+
I had the exact same problem with a Sony Vaio that I bought my
mom for Christmas. It took me 3+ days to fix. Luckily, I know my
way around Vista - at least just enough to get this problem fixed by
Christmas afternoon.
It required me to perform a cold-boot with a Linux Operating Disc
forcing Windows to go into the recovery mode thus allowing me to go
thru the initial installation screens again. The problem, in my view,
was caused by a MS update for ".NET". Somehow, the administrator was
demoted to a standard user and then replaced by a username of
"VSP.NET". However, my username still showed up on the logon screen
but the system would not accept my password because it was really
looking for the new user's password - the user that the system
created. Hence, I was out of luck.
Sony was of no help to me whatsoever. I found the hidden hard
drive partition and used it ultimately to restore the system back to
when I 'first turned it on after getting it out of the box. Son kept
asking me if I had burned a copy of the Vista Operating System discs
yet. I replied that there was no time as the system took over with
updates immediately following the user account setup. Over 35
Microsoft Vista updates innodated that laptop the moment it connected
with the Internet.
It was an experience. I don't know if you have fixed yours yet
or not - as it is over 2 weeks since your posting - but please feel
free to email me @
(E-Mail Removed) for any further help. I would
be happy to assist in any way.
