Hi,
You have mentioned that you have manually configured TCP/IP for both machines. When you enabled ICS on Vista machine, it is supposed to assign static IP address (192.168.0.1) to one of the NICs. Didn’t it happen? Are you using default Windows firewall in Vista machine? If so, can you check if “internet connection sharing” is enabled in exceptions tab in firewall (control panel->Windows Firewall -> Change Settings)? If it is enabled, please collect following traces while accessing any internet site: In an elevated command prompt in ICS host machine, run: ipconfig flushdns netsh ras diag set rastra ipnathlp ena Access internet from ICS client. Netsh ras diag set rastra ipnathlp dis Goto %windir%\tracing Send ipnathlp.log and ipnathlp.old files to (E-Mail Removed) Also please check if disabling firewall in ICS host makes ICS clients to connect to internet. Thanks for your reply, Ravi. I did get it working. It seems that I had to
do things in just the right order to get them to work. First I made sure ICS was OFF on Vista. Then I set Vista NIC #2 to use DHCP. Reboot Vista. Then I enabled Vista ICS which, as you say, establishes a static IP of 192.168.0.1 on NIC #2. Then I set XP to use DHCP, which returns a 169.x.x.x address. Shut down XP, reboot Vista, and when that reboot is complete start XP again. Voila! I mentioned in my first post that I had a NIC that was incompatible with Vista. I would have everything working fine, but after reboot I would be back to APIPA addresses on both Vista NIC #2 and XP. In case anyone wants to know, the NIC I replaced was a Linksys LNE100TX Ver 4.1 "Ravi K" wrote: > Hi, > > You have mentioned that you have manually configured TCP/IP for both > machines. Hi Ravi,
I am interested to see you could help Mike from Folroda and I am hoping you can help me. I am not as computer literate as I probably should be but here goes ...... No matter what I do no matter how many MS support articles I read I cannot file share or printer share on my home network which is running a modem connected to a Belkin wireless router with an ethernet connection to my desktop PC running XP Home and a wireless connection to my new laptop running Vista Home Premium. I keep getting "MY NETWORK" is not accessible. You might not have permission to use the network resource. Contact the admin etc etc. I cannot see the laptop from the dektop nor vice versa. I have tried to shared drives and folders - nothing seems to work. Have read a MS support articel that tells me to tirn on netbios over TCP/IP -nothing works. About to give up in disgust.
