I have a university-issued laptop, running XP pro. The network is normally
set to "domain" to access the school network. At home, I was trying to
connect it to my computer using a crossover cable. It was unable to connect
with it, though it did detect it, so I tried setting up a workgroup. I
switched it over from "domain" to "workgroup", and restarted it so that the
settings would take effect, and after it restarted, I was unable to log on.
It did not recognize my name and password, nor the Administrator account
(which has no password). When clicking the "options>>" button on the login
screen, it doesn't show the domain dialogue (which would make sense if it is
on network). All I want to do now is find a way to log back in and switch it
back to domain - I expect that that will get it working again.
I tried restarting in safe mode, in safe mode with command prompt, debug,
etc. Neither my account nor the administrator account are allowed to log in
on any of them. So, is there any way to change the network settings without
logging in? Becuase this is a university laptop, I do not have the windows
disk, and do not have the option of a re-install (unless I take it to campus
computing and pay them to fix it, which I would very much like to avoid,
being a poor college student). Thank you very much for any assistance.
