I have two hard drives on my computer and XP is in on both drives. Don't ask
why, I don't know. It takes both drive or the OS won't boot. So I
disconnected the secondary drive and tried to re-load XP on the Primary. It
won't load. The CD is good and bootable, the BIOS is good, and I even tested
the WD hard drive and it's good. I even re-loaded XP twice while both drives
were hook up, but it didn't let me pick the drive I wanted XP to go on.
Anyone have any ideas why I can't load XP on the drive.

Richard

because windows can only be install on one hard drive ,
unless you have 2 different copy of windows which i doubt
you do , it wouldn't make sense if you did ... remove
your slave HDD cable and see if it boots up then , also
is it listed in your bios as enable , your master one
that is ???

You need to install xp on one drive only....When you un-connected the 2nd
drive did you re-set the solo drive as being solo thru the jumper
pins,actually
a WD drive solo doesnt use any jumper pins at all, leaving it set as master
with a pin is making it un-operational.

First ensure that the drive is on the Primary Controller and it's jumper
setting is in the Master position. Go to the Western Digital website and
check to see the correct setting. Next boot the computer with the XP CD, use
the option to repair with the Recovery Console. Use the instructions found
here under How To Partition http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm
to simply delete the partition. Type Exit while leaving the XP CD in the
drive. The compute should reboot. It should boot directly to the CD. Select
the option to Setup Windows XP and that should do it.
