Hi,

I am trying to install Windows XP on my machine running Windows 2000. I
wanted the computer to boot from CD ROM as I wanted to install it this way
so I could wipe the current partition. Unfortunateley the BIOS wouldnt let
me alter the boot settings - all drives were stuck on auto??? So I tried
running the Windows XP setup CD from Windows 2000 and the pc rebooted but
when I selected the option to install Windows XP I was informed that I was
missing hal.dll. So i can get back into Windows 2000 but I can't run the
Windows XP CD when I restart. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help

All drives are supposed to be on auto... that's the incorrect screen in the
BIOS.

You need to find the motherboard manual and find out which screen the
bootable order is on.

If you have a floppy drive, you can download the XP install floppy boot
diskette creation rootines from Microsoft. Just make sure to get to correct
on (Home ot Pro, with/without SP1).
