Can't Install Windows Defender Beta. Have found a solution

      16th Feb 2006
Running Windows Xp sp 2 on a Compaq R3000. Download is okay. Installation
starts okay. Start WindowsDefender click on [RUN]

Welcome to Install Wizard [NEXT]
Accept License [NEXT]
Use Recommended Settings [NEXT]
Complete [NEXT]
Click Install to Begin [Install]

Please wait while installation wizard install -- This is where process would
hang. I wait for over 30 minutes and no progress bars. I had to remove power
to shut down and reboot.

Solution to my problem. TURNED OFF NORTON VIRUS SCAN. Hope this helps others.

More from Tom. Installation finished and did its first scan. Only the
installation did not generate a desktop icon and there is no icon in the
system tray.
However process MSASCui.exe is running.

The icon on the system tray, only will be apear, if need your atention.

i am having the same problem as tom is. should i try to turn off my Norton
antivirus as well on install. i am running windows xp home and norton
antivirus 2005.

any help would be appreciated

This is normal--no desktop icon, no icon in the notification area.

If you are having trouble on the install, turn off antivirus real-time
protection for long enough to get the install done.
