I tried installing the "Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
Express Install for End Users" as it was one of the
recommended updates detected by Windows Update but I keep
getting an error message that there's a problem connecting
with the server in trying to install the service pack and
the "retry" icon doesn't work.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? What should I
do?

Hi Sonia

- Try again at a later point of time

or

- Download the SP4 installation yourself:

If you have a DialUp Connection then download the Express Installaton of SP4
(you will need to be connected to the Internet during Setup - however, less
data will have to be downloaded in total).

http://www.microsoft.com/Windows2000...4/download.asp
(choose the Express Installation on the right hand Side)

However, I would recommend that you do install it as it contains more
Support for Devices and many Bug/Securityfixes contained in one Package.

Unless you have a DialUp Connection to the Internet, Install the Network
Installation of Windows 2000 SP4.

Go here to download it:
http://www.microsoft.com/Windows2000...4/download.asp

Direct Download Link:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo.../W2KSP4_EN.EXE
(~130 MB)

If you don't want to download anything then you can order SP4 on CD.
Shipping+Handling costs apply. To order go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000...p4/ordercd.asp.

or:
Order the CD by Phone or Fax
Call (800) 360-7561
Fax (716) 447-7330

a.. Request part number C11-03228 for SP4 English
b.. Request part number C11-03229 for SP4 French

Using a Download Manager will allow you to interrupt/resume when you like.
Get a free Download Manager here:

LeechGet: http://www.leechget.de/

Some Shareware Download Managers are:

GetRight: http://www.getright.com

FlashGet: http://www.flashget.com/

Go!Zilla: http://gozilla.com/index.htm

and many more...

NOTE: Always backup your system *before* installing and please choose to
archive the files during Setup as this will allow you to roll back the SP
Installation in the unlikely case that problems would occur.

NOTE 2: Installing SP4 will not install Security Update MS03-026, which
protects against vulnerabilities associated with the Blaster worm. If you
have not installed this security update, make sure you install it from this
page before or after installing SP4:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...n/MS03-026.asp

Direct Link to the Patch Download:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

To learn everything about the MS Blaster Worm and how to protect yourself
best, go to: http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

Final NOTE: Please do visit Windows Update too after the Security Patch and
the SP4 install to check if you have to install more critical updates, such
as the new Security Patch for Internet Explorer.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio

Yes, I have the same type of problem. Microsoft must have
access to the internet when inspecting your system. Please
inform me if the problem can be solved, easily

Just download the SP4 via the links provided above. For the Netowork Install
you will not need to have Internet Access once you have downloaded it.

Rgds,

Fabio
