I was installing nvidia perf hud and in the process it uninstalled my video
driver so it could install an instrumented video driver. That failed, and I
am now not able to install any driver. It appears to work (thru manual update
driver or find new hardware) but gets to the end and says

cannot install this hardware "access is denied".

i looked thru the setupapi.log and nothing there is enlightening.

I've got full admin rights....anyone?

Maybe open device mgr, uninstall nvidia (all),close out when thru, shutdown pc.
XP will reinstall on restart + you should be able to update software to where
you want to be...
