Good news... it is working!

I still could NOT get my Movie Maker 2 to update the older
Movie Maker 1 (due to serious Registry corruption on my
local machine...) but what I WAS able to do was to upgrade
same on a completely separate box and then do the
following:

1) created a new folder on my corrupted puter
called "MovieMaker2"
2) copied the main moviemk.exe from the different puter
where the upgrade to version 2 worked fine to this new
folder
3) grabbed ALL the contents of the Movie Maker folder
where I tried to upgrade version 2 and copied everything
EXCEPT the moviemk.exe (smaller version 1 .exe file) and
pasted into this new MovieMaker2 folder
4) went to www.papajohn.org and reviewed the issues
under "problem solving/acceleration" and did a search on
my puter for "*.ax" to file ALL codecs. I then renamed
any/all codecs using the file extension ".ax_" (in my case
there were only two of them on my system...) and then
launched MovieMaker2 from my new folder.
5) input video and audio and can use all transitions and
titles, credits again with ease

Hope this helps...

P.S. - I AM going to blow away my entire drive once I get
it backed up fully and start with a totally clean install
of XP Pro to get around having to do what I mentioned
above. For now though... it is too damn sunny outside to
be stuck solving Bill Gate's problems!

NOTE: I have created a .zip file with the moviemk.exe
(version 2) in it if you want me to send it to you...
simply send me an email: (E-Mail Removed)

Great call!

I will take back what I said about giving you this file...
please try to upgrade to Movie Maker 2 the official way as
licensed by Microsoft Corporation. Not interested in any
legal hassles...

I'm glad you got it working Wudman - if anyone else is having trouble
installing it the official way, you can try the semi-official way:

Copy the contents of the
"C:\WINDOWS\RegisteredPackages\{60BFF50D-FB2C-4498-A577-C9548C390BB9}"
folder into your "C:\Program Files\MovieMaker" folder, overwriting the files
when it prompts you to.
Right click on the mm20ex.inf file and choose install.
Doubleclick on the moviemk.exe file will then launch Movie Maker 2.

We're working on getting this posted as a KB Article.
