Just got a new computer (Dell 8300, 3 ghz, 1g RAM) with XP Professional. I
have a Sony Floppy Disk Adaptor for Memory Stick (MSAC-FD2M). It ran fine
on my old computer running XP Home after I updated the driver for XP with a
driver from the Sony site.

On this computer, when I try to install the so called XP driver, I get an
error message that says it can't be installed on a two processor system. I
only have one processor. Anybody know what I can do? Sony has no solution
that I can find. Thanks...

Dianne

Your Dell Dimension 8300 uses a P4 CPU that supports hyperthreading, which
means that your single CPU shows up as two logical processors. (If you look
under Processors in Device Manager, you'll see two identical ones listed.)

It may be possible to deactivate hyperthreading in your PC's BIOS. Whether
that would satisfy the installer for the Sony software, I don't know.
(Whether horrible things would happen if you turned off hyperthreading,
installed the software, and then turned hypertherading back on, I don't know
either.)

In my opinion, it's not worth a lot of effort trying to get the adaptor
running on your new PC. You can obtain a USB memory stick reader for $20 at
Circuit City, a chain not known for everyday low prices. They list a Sandisk
unit that supports USB 2.0 (up to 480 Mb/s) and Memory Stick Pro, so that's
be entirely up-to-date.

You may be comfortable using your old floppy adaptor, but change can be
good. ;-)

HTH.
