Background.maybe: Aug 9 in ..xp.general newsgroup I started a thread
that is still a work in progress, called...
DOS program "Error 2009 : Not enough space for environment"

I think this is related to that problem which itself on both XP and
Windows 2000.

First, let me say that I validated the CDROM data by installing on
another Windows 2000 system.

I have XCOPY the entire CD to this troubled system and tried it from
that directory. Same issue.

When I try to launch \INSTALL.EXE or \DISK1\setup.exe, nothing happens.
No window. Nothing. If I launch them in a command prompt windows,
nothing... just makes a blank line and goes to command prompt.

Fail exist with default config.nt and with config.nt with appropriate
shell line.

Any ideas how I approach this problem?

Note: This machine is the original machine that exposed the DOS problem
on XP. I have since formatted and installed Windows 2000 PRO. I have
installed many programs, including OFFICE 2000 and Lotus Smart Suite 9.

Quicken 2000 doesn't need config.nt

Take a look around here.

For what it's worth, I've had Quicken 2000 installed and running on my
Win 2K system since October 2001. Quicken 2000 is a pure Windows progeam.
It doesn't have anything to do with DOS emulation or config.nt.

Yes, I understand that is an old 16 bit windows program. I do have it
running now, by manually copying everything from another system,
including two required dll's from system32.

My issue is not im making Quicken work, since I am an old timer with
lots of DOS experience. The issue is the the INSTALL.EXE and
DISK1\setup.exe will not run; not even launch. I think I have a problem
in this recently rebuilt windows 2000 system. That problem first showed
up when I tried to run PFS First Choice V3 (pure, raw dos). I think it
likely is the same problem preventing Quicken 2000 install / setup from
running. I just don't know how to track it down. GFoogle search finds
that I am not "the lone ranger" and what few "fixes" have worked for a
while, they are no true fixes. None of them worked for me.

I just looking for more good ideas to try. Thanks for trying.

Carl

Hmmm... Very useful information.
I did not really see anythign that pertains to my complaint.

\INSTALL.EXE will not run.
\DISK1\setup.exe will not run.

Due to the time and effort I have spent, it caused me to post here. I
tend to think this is a problem with running 16 bit DOS executables. I
have already spent days on another one...

Uhmmm, yes, useful link.
That does not apply.
I cam browse and copy the entire disk.
I can look at readme and other respective files. I can install Office,
Powerquest apps, Lotus etc. It's not a drive problem.

I coppied all the CD to hard drive and tried to install from there (I
have done it on other machines). I have no doubpt it is a compatability
problem. Windows 2000 doesn't have the compatibility nicety that XP
has. I therefor tried to modify config.nt with shell= command, but
nothing helped.
