My friend tried to install the newest version of Windows Defender and it
tells him that he has to uninstall the Comcast branded IE and install
Microsoft IE. How would one go about doing this? If he uninstalls his
Explorer, how can he download and install the latest IE?

....well if I were doing that, I'd download the IE install program to my
harddisk perhaps to the desktop so I could find it again (Save As), then
un-install Comcast's IE via Add/Remove in the Control Panel, then double
click on the saved IE download from Ms file on my desktop to start the
install... done! Although I think I'd also visit Windows/Microsoft Update
to get any new patches after the IE install, specifically run an Express
update repeatedly until nothing else was offered.

....and an additional thought, if he's been using Comcast's IE for a while
he might have a bunch of favorites and/or cookies that he'd like to bring
over, so export the favorites (file > import/export) from that version to a
temporary location before you wipe it out in Add/Remove, then import it
when you get the new IE from Ms installed.

That was what I had in mind but wasn't sure if donwloading IE would have an
installation program or just immediately try to upgrade any existing version
that was on the computer. Thanks for your input and I feel this will solve
our dilema.
