When I try to install I get the message
'Install a Standard VGA adapter first'
But I have got a standard VGA adapter installed, according
to my system profile.

I previously had a WinFast graphics card, which I have
binned - I read on the windows support website that this
can mess up settings and prevent you from installing any
other cards.

So I downloaded the patch PNPREG.EXE from the windows
webstie - however this does not work (error 234). Leaving
me stuck - with no-one to help out.

I wonder if any of this has anything to do with the
MSBLAST virus I got - to resolve that I had to go into
REGEDIT and change settings there, and this is what PNPREG
appears to be trying (and failing) to do.

Looks like the virus left your OS rather unstable. If you can do a clean
install.
