I am trying to install a network printer on a new xp pro
machine. I run the add printer wizard and cannot see any
printers. The printers are all connected directly to the
network (not shared via a server). I can't see any of
them. I can see them from mac and linux boxes on the
network.

What type of print device or network card is installed for the printer?

The easiest way to do this is to create a local printer and create a
Standard TCP/IP Port to the device if the print server or printer network
card support the LPD service or Raw TCP printing.
