Since I've installed norton internet security 2004 I can't install msn
messenger.
Since the norton install I also have problems to install te new windows
updates.
Both installs just freeze when they are initializing.
Does anybody know what's the problem?

Sounds like a blessing in disguise to me, but disabling Norton temporarily
seems to alleviate many problems with windows updates.

Disable the NAV part of NIS when installing anything and prior to going to
Windows Update (when, of course, all other running processes should be
closed).

Disable NIS-2004 and then start installation.
