Have you already followed all the steps listed in the Windows Vista help
topic "Install or remove a hard disk drive"?:

How did you connect the drive to the computer? What software do
you mean? What message do you see, exactly, and when do you
see it?

I connected it by USB cable. I installed the software that came with the
harddrive. I don't get any messages but when I go to the start menu then to
my computer, it dosen't show my external harddrive. When I try to use the
software that comes with it, it tells me that the drive is not connected. I
tried un-installing and re-installing the software and I conneceted the USB
cable to all my USB ports and it still dosen't work. My USB ports work fine
with other devices and my USB cable connects to other computers just fine.
I'm frustrated beyond belief and ready to switch back to XP where everthing
worked.

The problem may be the software you are using is not compatible with Vista.

On my machine running Vista Ultimate w/clean install, I just plugged in the
drive to a USB port, turned it on and it works fine.

Thank you Leo for that heart warming story but does that help me? And I've
clean installed about three times and nothing. Plug and play? More like plug
and pray. I thank everybody for their replies but I need help. Don't make me
even more depressed telling me about your success stories.

If you don't like the answer, don't ask the question.

Telling me you just plug the drive in and it worked is not an answer. What do
you think I did at first? Does anybody know how I can find what works with
Vista and what dosent?
