Hi,

I have an old computer that I bought from my previous employer.

I think the security settings remain, and I can't see the add/remove
windows components and therefore can't install IIS, which I need for
some web development.

Can anyone find a way to switch the add/remove windows components back
on, or another way to install IIS.

The computer runs XP pro.

The best solution for you is to do a clean install of the operating
system. This way you will get rid of all the many group policies that
have been set.

So you got old computer hardware from your previous employer. Did that
actually include a legal license for Windows XP Pro? If so then you
should have also received the installation media to go along with the
hardware. More likely is that all you got was hardware with a polluted
hard drive.

If you actually got the software then boot using the install CD and
select to wipe the partition(s) on the hard drive(s) and install a FRESH
copy of Windows XP Pro. Then you, as the administrator, can configure
it however you want.
