I just replaced the motherboard and hard drive for my
father-in-law's machine. We purchased Windows XP Pro.
Upgrade because, initially, we thought it was a simple
Windows 98 issue and upgrading seemed the best option.
Now, of course, we're essentially installing fresh using
the Upgrade disk. We have a full copy of Windows 98 on CD,
so there should be no problem. This is all just prologue.
In the process of trying to install XP on the new HD and
Mobo, I keep getting the following error on a BSOD:
Stop 0x0000000A Irql_Not_Less_or_Equal
According to the knowledge base, this is due to some
incompatibility somewhere. However, the only internal
piece of hardware not on the motherboard is a slightly
older nVidia video card. I've shut down literally
*everything* I can think of in the BIOS and still get this
error.
Is there some way to grab all of the XP updates and have
them install at the time of the original installation?
What can I do to get XO on that box? For the record,
Windows 98 won;t install either, but I'm not clear as to
why. While I await a response, I'll try installing it
again to get mor details.
Thanks!
Rob Z.
