Can't install Digital Sound System 80 driver

When I tried to install the DSS80 driver in to the hp
a250n (Windows XP), a message saying "USB host controller
was not found..." appeared, and the driver was not
installed. The speakers still play the audio through the
PC audio card, but no digital sound. Does it means that I
am out of luck with the Windows XP? Any patch driver from
Microsoft for the Windows XP for the DSS80 available?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
