I've got an wmv file and am trying to insert into a webpage but it doesn't
nothing. I'm using insert/picture/video. I select the wmv file but it
won't play. It does play ... I checked with WMP and others ... so it does
play as it should.

Any thoughts?

Have you installed this? (you may need to reconstruct the wrap around link)

I did a google search and found this posting by Jim Buyers. It was posted
to this newsgroup, but I'm unable to get my outlook express to do searches
(which is a serious bummer).

Here's Jim's posting and it worked for me. Thanks Jim, if you're listening.
(I used the insert web component and pointed to the wmv file and it works
for. I just hope that others in www can see it too. I'll be finding out
soon enough.

One approach is simply to treat the WMV file as if it
were an ordinary picture. First add it to your Web, and
then drag it onto your Web page.

Beyond that, it's a major puzzle as to what player your
visitors will have available. If they're all going to
have IE and a new enough version of Media Player:

1. Set the insertion point in an open Web page.
2. Choose Web Component from the Insert menu.
3. When the Insert Web Component dialog box apears,
Choose Advanced Controls in the list box at the left,
and ActiveX controls in the list box at the right.
Click Next.
4. Choose the Windows Media Player control. (If it
doesn't appear, click Customize, find it in the
resulting list, select its check box, and click OK.
5. Click Finish, then right-click the new control and
choose ActiveX Contropl Properties from the shortcut
menu.
6. Configure the options you want.

For greater browser compatability but less control over
results:

1. Set the insertion point in an open Web page.
2. Choose Web Component from the Insert menu.
3. When the Insert Web Component dialog box apears,
Choose Advanced Controls in the list box at the left,
and Plug-In in the list box at the right.
Click Next.
4. In the resulting Plug-In Properties dialog box, enter
the URL of your video in the Data Source box,
configure any other settings you want, and then click
OK.

Sorry this can't be easier but the crazy mish-mash of
video formats and browser capabilities truly conspire
against us.

Doug,
I had not installed what you sent. Looks interesting ... am checking it
out. There might still be somthing there that will help for this or for
others or future projects ... where applicable. I'm learning stuff every
day.

I'm still hoping that what I did will work, but haven't had a chance to ask
someone to check it yet ... almost midnight here, to it prob won't happen
'til tomorrow.
Thanks.

Doug,
As it turned out, I was the only person that could watch the video through
the internet ... on my pc), so it didn't really work as I thought.

Sooooo I went to the link you provided and it certainly seems to work
better. I've just published and will get someone to test it. Here's hoping
it works.

Thanks for sending the link ... appreciate it.
