I started using movie maker today and did fine
until it was time to add the music. I have legally downloaded the files and
also tried from a CD......nothing........ I keep getting the same message
from files that I downloaded from 3 different sites: "wma is protected using
digital rights
management and cannot be imported". Can someone please tell me what that
means? I have searched the internet for hours, paid microsoft $35 for a tech
call and still NOTHING!!! If I can't import and music, that I have
downloaded, then what can I download and from where. My movie is done, with
the exception of the music. Any help would be appreciated so I can finally
go to BED!!!!

Hi, I answered your other post... another note. Purchasing music gives you
the rights to listen to it,
not necessarily the rights to use/distribute it in a movie.

Hello

To avoid having to download your music again....

1) Burn an audio CD using the music affected by DRM
2) Using a free program like Music Match, RIP back the music from the CD
3) Use the new copies of the music in your project

Music Match from www.musicnatch.com gives the ability to turn off DRM and
it will not sneakily try and re-introduce it. In step 2 above, make sure
you use a different file name for the new DRM free file.

Music Match is my preferred program for copying / listening etc etc mostly
because its easy to use. I purchased the "full" version which as far as I
remember made it possible to burn at full speed as opposed to the 2 or 4
times limit imposed in the free version.

Thanks, I am downloading musicnatch.com right now. Guess I will fool with it
in the morning, I can't believe I have been at this all night. I feel really
dumb at this!!! I was doing so great until I came across this music glitch,
I really don't know how to rename the files, but I will try to figure it all
out tomorrow..........Thanks and I'm sure I'll be back tomorrow with MORE
questions!

John, I burned the songs to the CD, how do I rename them so that they are in
a format that movie maker will accept them? These are the wma files that you
told me to burn to a CD and then save with a different name. Thanks!

Hello,

From your wording I think you have done it wrong. You have to make an Audio
CD. Not a CD with WMA files on it.

Once you have your Audio CD you play it (on your computer) and record it
using Music Match..this process is referred to as Ripping or to Rip. Doing
that with Music Match and making certain that DRM in Music Match is turned
off will result in files being stored on your hard drive in either WAV or
MP3 format (Actually I should have mentioned in the other message that you
should use the WAV format...not MP3)

Renaming those files
===============

What I was getting at was don't give each of those files the same name as
those you are having trouble with. Its very easy to pick the file with the
wrong format if you do that.....personally, if I were in your position I
would delete the problem files once I was happy I had a good copy of them
(as WAV or just the copy on the CD)

Sorry, I am new to this and I know this is really simple and I am just
lost!!! Ok. I downloaded musicmatch and then burned the songs that I needed
to a CD. Now I don't know how to rip them. I guess my other question is, I
assume that I saved the songs on the CD in wma format. Where on musicmatch
do I turn that off? When I purchase a song it just automatically downloads.
I apologize for sounding so dumb, but I have been at this for two days know.
Burning I have been able to do, but ripping..............us guess I need to
find my son to help with that. I also have Roxio 7.5 which is supposed to be
able to change the files but I can't figure out how to work that
either............... The movie I have done and audio from a song that
wasn't protected, I just can't figure out how to unprotect and change them to
wav
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,

DONT PANIC !!!

In Music Match you will see the Record Button (Its not on this machine so
bear with me if I am a little vague) It should be a red button. You should
also see a button for selecting the source...that would be your CD player.
Click on the record button and a new window should open showing more
options for recording.

Because you have made the audio cd none of the tracks will have a proper
name (If you put a commercial audio CD in you will after a few moments see
the track names...assuming you are connected to the internet) At that stage
you can edit the track names. Do so if you wish.

Click the record button again and the process should start...its quite
quick. After the process is finished the music directory for Music Match
will contain all of the files and without the DRM problem.

If you did not select WAV or if later you want to convert them to some
other format. Using Music Match, select the files in the library and then
go to the main menu and select CONVERT...follow the on-screen
instructions/questions to complete the task.

Another nice option is the file rename process. There are far too many
options to describe it in here properly, but basically you can rename your
files using the band/group name/track number/album name/release date etc
etc. I use it when I have several discs like the Beatles...It makes sorting
files simpler......
