Hi, I am trying to convert a asf file to wmv file. I try to import the asf
file to Movie Maker 2 and get this error message:

The file *.asf is not indexed and cannot be imported.

I don't know what to do.

Thanks
John

I have the same problem. use mm2 on a limited basis. I accidently captured some video on amyb DVC memory stick instead of the tape and now I can't open it in the main prog I use for movies, and I tried 2 others i have one didn't recognize the file type and the other stated it was a microsoft patented file type but I get an Index error trying to import. How do I import I contacted microsoft for help and was told to go to e-machines since the prog came w/ my comp, e-machines doesn;'t support software only hardware and told me to contact microsoft. Go figure!

Provided you have the correct permissions for the file, try renaming the
extension to wma and see if it will now import.

Hello there,

Your solution is to download the Windows Media Encoder. One of its major
functions is to convert from one format to another. ASF & WMV are both
Microsoft inventions and the encoder does a fine job converting.
