i cant import any types of video files including avi. and mpg. and wmv.

this error message comes up everytime:

*file name* could not be imported. Unspecified error

i cant do anything at all, i cant find any updates (current version: 2.1)
and i think it may be codec related, as it didnt work before i installed the
DivX codec and it still doesnt work (although it was a different error
message). i couldnt find any other questions confronting this specific issue,
ive asked the tech support at my work but they cant understand it either.

IF ANYONE CAN HELP THEN I WOULD BE EXTREMLY HAPPY!!!!!

If anyone has anything to say on this, just let me know what i can try.
short of buying a new computer or reinstalling windows as i have already done
that.
