my laptop (with Windows XP) has a Netgear wireless notebook adapter and WAS
connecting fine to the internet through my Netgear router. Recently, I had
to erase my laptop of all software and reload it due to separate issues.
Windows XP re-loaded fine. Netgear wireless notebook adapter seemed to load
fine and was able to establish a connection to the Netgear router.
Everything looks good except that when I click on internet explorer on my
laptop I can't connect to the internet and I don't know why? On the Netgear
wireless adapter status page it says "connected to the router" - everything
looks right. My desktop works fine with the internet connection. Just can't
get my laptop to do it. Not sure what to do - Help!

When you reloaded XP, was it SP2 or earlier?

Hello,

Does the Internet work with the firewall disabled? Does firefox or any other
internet application work?

If no to both of the above, try the troubleshooting guide here -

Could it be, that you forgot to set one of your properties of the
wireless connection:
- SSID
- type of security WEP, WPA, WPA2
- the password ?
