i use Trillian and dont even use Windows messenger. how
do i stop getting the update message...?

this is the message i am receiving when logging on:

..NET Messenger Service Staff: You are running a version
of messenger that requires an immediate security update.
Please visit http://messenger.msn.com/Help/Upgrades.aspx
to complete the update.

This message is being sent to anyone logging into the .NET Messenger network whom is not
using Windows Messenger 4.7.2005 (or higher) or MSN Messenger 5 (or higher). These versions
(among other things) use a new authentication scheme to logon. Since you're not using either
of these clients, you're seeing the message.

Cerulean Studios (Trillian's author) is supposed to be updating the Trillian product line
shortly and you'll just need to upgrade to that. In the meantime, you'll need to "put up"
with the message.
