I, too, have the problem which joostin420 has regarding the
udate-your-version messages popping up every time I sign
online. I actually did download the new version, even
though I don't use Messenger, because I assumed that would
make the messages stop. Wrong assumption.

I'd like to either uninstall Messenger or disable it, as
Bob Newman also mentioned. I've gone into "set program
access and defaults" and unchecked it there, but I'm still
getting the annoying update messages.

Since these seem to be problems for some number of us, I'm
hoping someone from MS will reply. Soon.

Thanks.

Greetings rxbach,

It's possible that you installed MSN Messenger 6, but what's popping up and claiming that you
need to upgrade is Windows Messenger. To fix this, download and install Windows Messenger 5
instead:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger/download.asp

However, since you don't use Messenger, you can just disable it from starting up by
double-clicking on its icon in the notification area/system tray, click the Tools menu, then
Options, then Preferences, uncheck 'Run this program when Windows starts' and click OK (if
you don't have a Preferences tab then you're opening MSN Messenger which you've probably
updated, click Start, then All Programs, then Windows Messenger if you can't find it in the
notification area).
