Howdy: Running WinXP Media Center on a Dell Dimension E510, with
Pentium 4, 256mb RAM, SATA HD.
I can't seem to get past the logon screen. When the logon screen
appears so does a little window that says the computer is shutting
down because RPC terminated unexpectedly and a count down starts and
then the computer reboots!
I've tried re-installing Windows over the old install, no joy. There
are no hardware problems in DeviceManager (from SafeMode).
I was getting a BSOD before the logon page that gave an error
message about C000021A and then this number 0XC0000005 but I used
the reset to a previous known good reset point and this has gone
away. I was also getting the same shutdown window telling me that
DCOM Server Process launcher services terminated unexpectedly before
this one. It won't let me in to even install some anti-spyware stuff
to see if I can get control of this puppy. Arrrrggggghhhhh!
Anyone have any ideas, short of a complete reformat and re-install??
I don't have the restore disk that came with the Dell, but I am
using one of my Windows XP Pro disks to get files off of.
Thanks.
