I have Windows XP in a University of Cape Town LapTop
which is connected to the network. When I switch the
machine on, the network dialog box appears and I punch in
my details then enter; then the Windows dialog box appears
and requires a password. I do not know this password and
the UCT IT department couldn't help me. I cannot go pass
this window which means I cannot use this computer. Can
anyone please help me?

Hello and greetings from England. I suggest you try Safe Mode by tapping
the Function 8 key on reboot, just before Windows loads. That may help you to
uinderstand what has gone missing in passowrd terms and therefore be able to
get back in your network. Use a default admin account by pressing the delete
key twice once you're in Safe Mode.
