use the "Test Account Settings" button in the Mail Account setup box - that
will come up with any error in the set up.

Sorry, but even with the biggest battery attached to my crystal ball, it
still cannot see across the big pond to see over your shoulder the error
message that you didn't mention here.

Outlook version?
Windows version?
Error message?

Do not describe an error message. Do not summarize an error message.
Do not paraphrase an error message. Do not truncate an error message.
Show the error message in its entirety (but munge out your username).

If you are not using SSL to connect to their SMTP mail host, you can
test if you can establish an mail session with their SMTP server by
using telnet. In a DOS shell, run:

telnet <smtpservername> 110

Did you get a welcome message? If so, enter:

user <yourusername>
pass <yourpassword>
list

This checks that you can login okay. It also checks that you can get a
list of messages in your mailbox, if any. To get out of this telnet
session, enter:

quit

Usually you get one chance per potential respondent to elicit a reply
from them. If they skip your post because you gave them nothing to go
on (no details, no versions, no context), usually they will just move on
to the next post and never return to yours. Go read:
