I can't get a XP Pro Media Center PC into my domain. The option
"Member of Domain" is greyed out.
Could somebody help me out on this one?

Thanks in advance!

Since Windows XP Media Center Edition is based on Windows XP Home Edition,
it cannot be a domain member.

I'm sorry to say that that's not true. MCE is based on XP Pro.
From http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/m...evaluation/faq.
mspx:
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 is one of the most fully
featured versions of the Windows operating system you can get on a
home PC. It's built on Windows XP Professional, so it delivers the
power, reliability, networking capabilities, and security features
you expect, plus specially enhanced capabilities for digital
entertainment.

I forgot to mention in my first post that I'm logged on as local
admin.

That's new information to me, thank you. But I still don't think it's
possible.

From http://www.microsoft.

to a Windows Server domain to take advantage of the full range of

what version of Media Center are you using? 2002? 2004? 2005?

Okay, I give up. Maybe someone else knows more than I do.

there will be tons of information posted today on MCE 2005 - however,
as posted by a MS employee in the Media Center newsgroup, MCE 2005
cannot join a domain. You should probably visit that newsgroup today
for further questions on this.

Thanks for your information Barb.
I find it a bit strange that 2004 can join a domain and 2005 can't.
I'm off to the newsgroup you mentioned.
Thanks again!
