Cant get to internet with XP

      16th Feb 2004
Hello, I am working on my mother-in-laws hard drive,It
was full of spam and spyware.We have it cleaned up but
cannot get the network connection to work, I have tried
XP reinstall feature to no avail.I Am hooked up to a
lynksys router,I manually put the IP,DNS and gateway in
the same as my other computer and laptop.the are working
fine.I can ping my second computer and my second compter
can ping the other 2 on the network but it will not go
out on to the net.Any Ideas ,

Hello

Try uninstalling TCP/'IP and scan for viruses also, maybe
could TP/IP is corrupted

Reference the post below yours titled "Winsock and XP" it
gives the Microsoft Knowledge base number for the fix
(Winsock corruption). It entails deleting and importing
regisrty keys so you need to have another XP PC to be able
to get the good registry keys from to import into the PC
with the problems. Hope this helps.

Ok replacing the registry entries did the trick ...

Can you ping the router ? something else you can try is
at command promt type "tracert internetsite" (e.g tracert
www.honda.com) this will show how far the packets reach
and will give you a piont which to start resolving your
problem.

Sorry Alvin but TCP/IP cannot be uninstalled because it is the core
component of Windows XP. Details here.
