I can't get my dvd/cd working. I put in a cd or dvd and the computer will not
read it, it doesn't seem to even read that I have put a cd/dvd in it. I have
changed the ribbon cable and put in 3 different cd and dvd player and they
all do the same thing. Everything else works on my computer. This problem
seem to have happened all at once. Please any help will be very appreciated,
I have been trying to solve this for 2 days.

Thank You,
Roger

Sorry I forgot

Since you did not give any actual details that is needed then in the meanwhile try the fix as described in the below MS KB. Let us know.

I did everything that Peter said to do and it done what he said it would do
as far as the removal of driver but after all that is still does the same
thing. I can go to my computer and it shows the D: cd drive is there but when
I put in a cd the light on the dvd comes on for a very short time before the
cd gets loaded and it does not show that I put in a cd in my computer. It
worked just great until about three days ago. Please let me know what all
information is needed and I will try and give it to you. Thank you for your
time and trouble.

Hi Roger - See here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];270008 It may not
sound like it applies but take the steps outlined there to delete the Upper
and Lower Filters.

You can also use this reg file to handle these deletes (it takes care of
deleting some other things which can cause problems as well):
http://www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip This is
pretty much the "standard" fix for this type of issue. Backup first so that
you can recover if there are problems (there aren't usually, BTW).

It's recommended by Compaq/HP that you run FilterFixer also when this occurs
to recreate the correct entries, here:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp2...00/sp27949.exe Instructions
here: ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp2...00/sp27949.txt

What does not show it? What do you expect it to do? If you view the
D: drive in Windows Explorer, do you see the files on the CD? Maybe
you just have autorun toggled off.

I have a Gateway, does that make any difference about using the http below? I
also run a program (can't remember the name, it was a free scan of my
computer) and it said that I was missing the Upper and Lower filters. How and
where do I go to get them? Thanks for all the help you have given me.
