Can't get 2nd monitor to work

I have a Dell 9300 Inspron. I have used the S Video output before to
use my TV as a second monitor. Right now I can't get it to work.

I connect the S Video output to the computer and set the second
display to extend my desktop. Nothing happens. My TV displays "no
signal" or something close.

When I go back to the display properties, the "extend to desktop has
been unchecked"

I am told that there should be a force display, but I don't find one.
Any suggestions on how to go from here?

What version of Windows?

You connect the TV S Video output to the computer?

Do you have the TV set to the S Video source?

That sounds like the best lead. But maybe it is caused by miswiring.

You should notice precisely when the setting is reset.

Not in Windows Display Properties.

OK, keep in mind that even if you connect a TV, the video card driver still
treats it like a monitor. Any monitor MUST be properly identified (by
windows) before you can extend your desktop onto it. Check to make sure
that your second monitor is listed as a "TV" and that it is NTSC (or
whatever it is). Also check your TV, some have more than one external
input. If S-Video is hooked up, is your TV displaying a DIFFERENT input?
Good luck. -Dave

Correction: My TV has a S Video input.
Anyway, I have the S video cable connected to the computer and to the
computer.

In the advanced video settings......I have a display menu. It has 4
devices listed. 1 for the internal panel. 2 for a FPD. 3 for a TV
and 4 for something else.

3 out of 4 are grayed.

I have checked the cable from the TV to the compter and it is good. I
would think that when I plug the cable into the computer the TV
settings should become active.
