Can't fromat 3.5" floppy

While trying to format a floppy, I get amessage that the disk is write
protected. How do I unprotect it?

Floppies have a small plastic slider in a slot in the
corner. If the slot is open the disk is write-protected, if
the slot is closed the disk can be written. If the drive is
broken, where is detects the slot position, buy a new drive.

Slide it the other way.

Either way I get the same message. "the disk is write protected"

Your drive has a broken part, spend about $10-20 and buy a
new drive.
