I can't forward email nor can I send my own photos to anyone. I get the same
message for both:
"An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'pop.charter.net', Server:
'smtp.charter.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '421 charter.net Lost
connection to [68.185.171.94]', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 421,
Error Number: 0x800CCC67"

What I'm trying to send stays in the "Outbox" and if I try to resend it, it
will say something like "Sending Message 1 of 83"

I am only trying to send 1 message to 1 person. Can anyone help please?
Thank you!

So did you look in the Outbox folder to see if there is more than one
message there? If only one, try moving that message to the Drafts
folder. If it moves, that tells us it is not a 'stuck message' problem.

There is only message in the Outbox folder. I can move it to the Drafts
folder but I still get the same problem---will not send and says it's sending
"1 of 43 messages". Any other ideas?

(In case Gary is not around atm)?

I only see this particular message?

It looks like that message was very very large?

First you say it was sending 83 parts, then you say 43 parts, either you got
your figures wrong or it has sent 40 parts and times out on your server. Can
you confirm the numbers, because if they are correct then a few more tries
and it will all have gone?

Go to tools>accounts>select your account>properties>advanced tab>do you have
the check mark in 'break apart messages larger than> and if so what size is
it breaking them into?

How do you connect to the internet, are you on Dial-up? etc

Now you will probably have to download this patch?

"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista"

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

It works for all folders, not just the Outbox.

Let us know how you get on please.

No, it's not a big attachment. (I said 43 instead of 83 because I can get
all different numbers depending on what I try to send.) I have a cable modem
(charter.net carrier), Windows Mail on a new laptop running Windows Vista.
I'm just trying to send one small photo. But it also happens if I try to
forward any kind of attachment. I cannot even REPLY to someone who sends me
an attachment. I can open and view it but cannot reply.

What anti virus software are you using?
Do you have anti spam software installed?

Yes, there is a check in breaking apart larger than 60 kb

I use Charter High Speed Security Suite and I have anti virus and anti spam
enabled.

(I appreciate your patience and your help!)

I suggest you remove that check mark, then try sending again.
If no improvement, uninstall the Security Suite, reboot, then try
Windows Mail again. If that resulted in improvement, we can suggest
a compatible free antivirus program.

83 Parts @ 60KB + WM adds around a third to the size in compilation = almost
7MB? you call that small?

>I use Charter High Speed Security Suite and I have anti virus and anti spam

As Gary said "uninstall the Security Suite". ASAP.

Bed time for me here in the UK. Good Night all.

I can't even send a photo that is 72kb. When I try, it will give me the
error I described in the original message and if I try again it will say
sending 1 of 43 or 1 of 84 etc. You pick the number--different every time.
It isn't "parts" it is 1 of 84 MESSAGES.

I should not have to uninstall my Charter Security Suite in order to reply
or send attachments. I could do it on my old computer fine. And I do not
want to be vulnerable to viruses and the like.
