I am experiencing a very strange and frustrating problem with a set of 10
Win 2000 laptop computers. Each of them has a LAN card installed as well as
wireless capability. They are being used by a group of 5th graders on an
elementary campus which has a wired CAT5 network as well as an 802.11b
wireless system that broadcasts throughout the campus.
The problem I'm experiencing is that if you boot up normally and attempt to
log on (Novell) wirelessly, the computer tells you that it can't find the
network. If, however, you log on to "workstation only" then once the system
has booted completely then the wireless network is found. At that point you
can simply log off as current user and log on to the wireless network. Also,
if you hardwire the computer to a 'drop' via a CAT5 patch cord the log in
goes smoothly and once logged on you can unplug the CAT5 cable and it will
automatically switch to the wireless set up. What's happening that prevents
Win 2000 from seeing the wireless network prior to a completed boot up?
