I want to import the rules I've saved from my old outlook set up... According
to the "help" menu, the "rules and alerts" option is supposed to be located
in the "Tools" menu when you're in the "Mail" navigation pane... Only... it's
not.

I purchased and installed Microsoft Office Standard, if that's of any use.
Please help. I'm already ****ed off that I've been forced into beta testing
(without pay, but only annoyance!) Microsoft's products (vista and 2007).
Please help make it less painful.

You're correct. that's where it should be. Did you remove the beta version
before installing the final version?
AFAIK the only way of importing/exporting Rules and Settings in 2007 is
via the User State Migration Tool....
get it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

And a brief article on how to use it here:

And just how were you "forced" to beta-test Vista and Office 2007? AFAIK
NO-ONE was FORCED into being a Beta tester....

Hey Gordon,

Thanks for the response. I was using the term "beta tester" in a wry,
acerbic and generally bitter sense. I'm not really a "beta" tester in that I
wasn't given a beta version of the program to run through. Instead, I
purchased Office 2007 (and I feel I was fairly strong-armed into doing so) so
that it would be most compatible w/ my new computer... My new computer came
pre-loaded with Vista (uggh) and I was told that if I wanted to strip it and
reversion it to XP, I'd have to also update all of the drivers on the
machine, etc. I'm really not that technically savvy, and it was time to
bounce off of my old Office 2000, so...

Vista and Office 2007 do seem astronomically cool and they are the cutting
edge of what is an inevitable new direction for PC users, but I just wish I
could have held off by a year or two to wait for Microsoft to get out most of
the kinks.

Follow up - The "rules and alerts" option didn't appear because I hadn't set
up an email account yet (cart before horse). I realize this is a total PEBKAC
(problem exists between keyboard and chair), but still think that the
information provided in the "help" section of Outlook should refer to this...
The first item it should mention is that you need to have an email account
set up before you can see this option.
